I Did My Hair and Didn’t Hate It

April 7, 2025

Okay, so here’s the deal:
Curling my hair with a wand? Actually not that hard. It’s quick, it works, and I know how to do it. The problem? I almost never give myself enough time to do both my hair and makeup—so guess which one usually wins? Yup. Makeup always wins. Hair either ends up in a ponytail or just left down and hoping for the best.

But lately, my hair’s hit that awkward length where it needs a little something. Otherwise it gives major frumpy vibes. And I have this weird thing where I don’t really like my hair down. I think it’s because I rarely style it, so down = frizzy = nope. Ponytail just feels easier.

But I’ve been in this little soft girl era lately.
Trying to show up for myself more. Romanticize my mornings a little. And that means actually taking the time to style my hair—like, not just know how to, but actually do it.

The Curl Situation:

My go-to curl look lately has been loose, soft, and just done enough to make me feel like I tried. Not too perfect. Just cute. I got put onto this curling wand by my nephew’s girlfriend, and now it’s what I reach for anytime I want to put a little effort in without going full glam.

Except… I have this one annoying cowlick/part situation that makes it look like I’m balding if I’m not careful lol. So I really have to work around that. But here’s what I’ve picked up from all the hair tutorials and TikToks I’ve binge-watched:

Tips That Actually Helped Me:

Use a texture spray (this one is the one I am using currently..

Curl away from your face

Don’t curl all the way to the ends – leave them a little straight for that effortless look

Once the curls cool off (important!), flip your head over and fluff them out

Mix up your section sizes—some big, some small

Finish with a little hairspray, but don’t overdo it

Honestly, I’m still figuring it out as I go, but I’m proud of myself for even trying. It’s not about perfect curls—it’s about feeling a little more put together, even if it’s just for me.

Here’s how it turned out:
